The year 2000 U. S. Census has been inundated by political and legal controversy. This talk will survey the current plans for Census 2000 from my perspective as a statistician. From this perspective the viability and desirability of these plans will be discussed. Some relevant evidence in this regard will be cited from the 1990 census and from the 1998 Dress Rehearsal census.
